Pool Fencing Safety

Recently there were changes regarding pool safety regulations throughout NSW for all existing pools and for properties with pools being sold. Since the amendment in legislation regarding pools in 2012, changes were made to increase safety, with regulations being clearly outlined and the growing push for pool registration and compliance pools. With the inclusion of smaller inflatable pools which were identified as a drowning hazard equally to larger pools and were found to be less likely to be fenced for child safety.

If you have inherited a pool fence or haven’t updated it in years, there is a chance it doesn’t meet the NSW legislation (The Swimming Pools (Amendment) Act 2012). This, in summary, refers to:

  • Fence position (proximity to tables, entry points)
  • Fence height (minimum fence heights)
  • Latch mechanism (childproof latches and height regulations) and much more.
